     General Information

Certifications - There are decided advantages to contracting with BTI as either a small business (SB), woman-owned small businesses (WOSB), small disadvantaged business (SDB) or company certified through the U.S. Small Business Administration's 8(a) Program. First, Basic Technologies International is:

  • Certified by the SBA 8(a) Program - effective November 1993 in the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Codes listed above;
  • MD/DC Minority Supplier Development Council; and
  • State Certified as Small Business in Maryland, Georgia and Virginia, and
  • State Certified as Minority, woman-owned small business by the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Such programs and certifications save time by identifying qualified companies in good standing, eliminate the need for sole source justification, simplify and shorten the contract processing time, and assist in the attainment of federal contracting goals. By allowing open communication between prospective 8(a) contractors, contracting entities are allowed the opportunity to clarify requirements such that project teams can be tailored to specific customer needs.

Evidence of the soundness of such an approach is to be found in the fact that BTI was selected:

1998 Woman-Owned Business of the Year

by the

US Department of Transportation

Federal Highway Administration

Company Size
- BTI’s 1998 sales were $1 million. The ratio of 8(a) to non-8(a) business is 75:25. Eight full-time, permanent employees manage the performance of 3 subcontractor organizations totaling 15 additional personnel and/or consultants.

Financial Stability - Costs are tracked using DCAA approved Deltek Accounting Software.
